Black- Often shaded; nose black, born black; quite easily turn to a rusted-grey color in long exposure to sunshine.

Fawn-Deeper or lighter shade of cinamon (in American Chow's language); often shaded; nose black; is born flesh colour and turns black in about a week's time. Most common color.

Red-Also shaded, but not so distinctive as blacks or fawns; nose back; deep red color is not common.

Cream-Shaded; fawn ears and always associated with brick-colored nose with black rim (this is why this color should be deep brown and tongue color should be completely blue-black, as blue black as the blacks and fawns.

Dilute- Cream is a theoric diluted colour but there is a difference between them. The coat color is a deeper tone of reddish cream the color of "hot cream"in the language of Persian cat Breeders. The nose color is lighter brick colored ( lighter than the creams) without dark pigment around the rim. Eye color is usually lighter and the main difference is the tongue color- a shade of overall light-purple instead of a solid blue black .If the overal color pattern is not diluted to an excessive degree, this color is acceptable.

Rust-An overall rusty-grey (not a seasonal rusted-black color and much lighter overall color than the former); the intermixture of black and fawn hairs; shaded darker long the top of the back fawn-rusty on legs; the overall appearance of a whole color effect is mantained and no suggestion of distinctive border between darker and lighter color regions. Nose black.

Chocolate-A whole chocolate color with a chocolate nose and yellowish eyes; tongue color is light-purple; it is whole colored, therefore, acceptable. The writer has so far seen only one of this color born form both black parents.

Except those specially mentioned, the tongue color of all these varieties should be completely blue-black. The stronger and deeper pigments being favored.
