The Shar Pei, whose name means sand skin, is one of the oldest races ever known, people think that it has an antiquity of more than 2000 years.

Since have been data to Shar Pei, in the zone of Tibet throughout the dynasty Ham (206AC-220DC), think that at that time these Shar Pei weighed 80kg. Another theory that locates its origin to the south of China, in the region of Dahlet pcia. De Kwong-Ting en Canton. With older registries to this time the existence of a statue of shar pei at the moment only settles down pertaining to the collection of Avery Brun-dage, kept in the museum of Asian Art in California. For that reason the name of “ dogs of the tombs is attributed to them ”, but in fact its history is mere speculation, since the historical facts of the Shar Pei were destroyed in the communist China of years 50.
Supposedly the Shar pei is originated of the Chow-Chow, there the color of its language, possibly with Great Pyrenean and the Mastin Tibetano.

At first  the Shar Pei was a dog of work that was used to defend the properties and flocks as well as to hunt this by its intelligence and bravery.

In the region of Corner it is used like fight dog, where it demonstrated to have physical qualities, but not the wished blood thirsty character.

With the arrival of the Communist Party in the People's Republic of China, forts imposed to the proprietors of dogs settle down, because the possession of this type of animals was considered like a food waste.

Of that reason it was in favor to point to be extinguished when in 1947, Mao-Tsetung ordered that all the dogs were sacrificed. So that is why the race Shar Pei began to be extinguished until almost disappearing. On those facts the biography tells that its skin was used like shelters for the ladies and their meat like food for poorest.
Thanks to the effort of Mr.Matgo Law, which resided in Hong-Kong, the race Shar Pei was not extinguished. In 1973 Mr.Matgo Law, wrote a titled note “Save to theShar Pei Chinese” which was published in the American magazine Dogs.

The answer was overwhelming, but because of its peculiarity, single a limited number of Shar Pei could arrive at the United States, its peculiarity and its great demand caused that it appeared in the Guinnes book like the rarest and more expensive dog of the world.
In States once United, a last name North American Albright knew the race and he fell in love with her and he promoted it in the television, press articles and the radio, of the phrase “to know it there is to want it”, with all this information they are decided to form a club, and thus the Chinese Shar-Pei is born American Club that is believed in 1974, its aim was to promote the young and to maintain a record book. Celebrating his first monographic exhibition in 1978.

On May 4th,  of 1988, the AKC accepts to the Shar Pei in the group of Diverse Class, recognizes the race in 1991, finally the 1 of August of 1992 is made position of record books .

Within the FCI the Shar Pei was included like company dog until finally it was located to him in group II. In 1994 the last standard of the race Shar Pei was published.
